Read the stories below from some dogs and cats that lived at ARF long ago. Click here for more recent tales.

Candy now name Penny is really enjoying her new home with her new big brother Angus a St. Bernard. As you can tell by the photos she loves the creek and the swimming pool.  We can hardly keep her out of the pool. She has 38 acres of land to run around in and lots of rabbits, squirrels, and other small creatures to chase.  We enjoy playing football and Frisbee with her. Penny is also enjoying her Saturday tradition with Angus and Dad loading up in the truck and going to the dump.
She has been a wonderful blessing to us all!
We wanted you to see how much fun she is having so we'll let you decide what picture to use.

Good Afternoon Ronda & Everyone at ARF,

Thank you for saving Nosey.  Although Nosey is an appropriate name for her extreme case of curiosity, we renamed her Sahara. She is a sweet kitty, and she has settled into her new home.  See the attached photos.

Thank you again for providing this wonderful service.

The Kocinski Family

This is Rose, we adopted her in January of 2006.  She is the sweetest kitty in the world.  We love her very much and don't remember what life was like without her.  She is very gentle and loving.  We are considering adopting her a friend.

Hello
My name is John Nussberger.   I've been a dog person all my life. On a few occasions I ventured into the world of cats. The first cat was a Manx cat, and the second cat was a white long haired cat that was deaf. They were both very unique.  When they passed on, I said I'm not getting another cat. Jokingly, I added, unless one shows up that is a long haired, white, deaf cat that is a Manx.

Well about a year later I saw an ad in the Union Recorder from ARF:   Long haired white deaf cat that was a Manx.  Needless to say, I left work and brought the cat home. He has been a wonderful addition to my home. I named him Bob.
Thanks ARF!
Dear ARF,

Hello! My Name is Brittany McCoy. I adpoted Chance August 13th of last year! Sorry it has taken us so long to write. You might remember him as Geoffery, and his brother's name was George. Well, he's is a wonderful dog and is as happy as can be. I never thought i find one like him . He's spoiled rotten! He just celebrated his 2nd birthday on June 23rd, which is the same day as mine. We had a party and lots of toys. Thanks for everything and for helping us bring this little Angel in our lives. We truly love him and he's in our hearts forever

P: S: A Note From Sir Geoffery Chance...thanks for helping me find my new family.. i love ya.

Hey, ARF.   We finally got a chance to send you some pictures.  Sorry it has taken so long. As of right now I am in Maymester at GCSU, but I will be done next  week so I will try to come by then and volunteer.

Gloria was adopted in 2002 from ARF. She has one step sister and two step brothers.

Hi,

My, then, fiancee and I adopted "Oscar" back in January, and I just wanted  to let you all know that he is the best thing that has happened to all of  us! We originally decided to get another cat for our first cat because  Toby, the first cat, was lonely and needed a friend. The plan worked, and  the boys are so happy. There was a bit of a rocky start though, "Oscar"  decided that he wanted to spend a couple days behind the refrigerator when  we first brought him home. Not even fresh seafood could get him out! Once  he came out, he was very social and a fast friend to everyone. We decided  to change his name to Rusty, and it only took him two months to learn it!  Toby and Rusty are the best of friends and keep us up many a night playing. Thank you so much for helping us pick the perfect friend for our  family! I enclosed a few pictures to show you how happy the boys are  together and how content Rusty is in his new home. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Robyn and Brad Rich

Hi friends!

Greeting from our new home! We adopted two humans that were without cats and needed our direction in their lives to help make them complete humans. We are brothers, and were known as Arthur & Lancelot at ARF. Alice & Mike are the people who we adopted and they have been calling us Bucky, shown  in the foreground, and Bilbo. Our new home is certainly acceptable to us. Alice & Mike are, of course, in training.

Hi friends, Sorry it took me so long to get in touch but my parents and I have been so busy. I used to live in Milledgville, GA but now I call home whereever my Dad turns off the key. I went to Ocala in our motor home and stayed for 2 weeks. Now we are about 40 miles east of there in a little town, Astor, FL. I am getting to know my 2 sisters, Holly, a dalmation (14 years old) and Gigi, a schnauzer (7years old with an attitude). I have adjusted very well and consider the sofa, chair (Dad's or Mom's) and the bed my personal nap places. I bark at possible unfriendly visitors to warn everyone and then welcome them with lots of wiggles. Everyone Mom and Dad meet call me a sweetheart; whatever that means. I've learned that fresh fruit is a really really tasty snack and even like an occasional treat of Cheerios. We will start our trek north next week going first to Santee, SC. I will have Mom email you from time to time as we travel and see new things. Thank you for taking care of me for my new parents.
Sincerely, Boots

Bobbie,

I just wanted to let all of you know that Laverne (now known as LUCY) is doing GREAT!!!!  She was wonderful in the car on the drive back and immediately took to her new home.  She has her own goose-down pillow and blanket and loves her new toys – though I did find that she must have had a stuffed toy while with you as she got really excited when I gave her one.  I also discovered that she likes pink – someone must have given her something bright pink as she follows that color everywhere, needless to say her blanket is pink now.

She is now a skilled car rider and gets excited when I take out her blanket, because she knows that means she is going with her Mommy.  She is truly a doll and is enjoying being treated like the Princess that she is.

I’ll send pictures and updates soon.

Bless you all.

Baby pictures

Hello ARF. My wife and I adopted Charlotte and Bristol (formerly Polly and Dolly) in September of last year. They were the sweetest pups when we adopted them and even though they are growing up and 35 pounds heavier now, they are still the sweetest babies in the world. They love to run and play in their big fenced in back yard and it was the best choice we had ever made to adopt both. They love each other and wherever you see one, the other is not far away. My wife had never had a dog but she has adjusted well. If I can't find her, I don't have to look far because she will be somewhere cuddled up with "the girls" snoozing.

Thanks ARF,

We adopted Dutchess over the summer and she is doing great. Her  heartworm treatment was successful and she is now very happy, healthy, and active. She is very affectionate and loves attention.  She and our other German Sheppard Sasha have become the best of  friends and they love to play together in the yard. She can run so fast! It took a while for our cat to warm up to Dutchess because Dutchess was so curious about him at first. But now we are all just one big family. Thanks so much. You guys do such a wonderful service! :)

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that Ginger (renamed Molly) is doing great. She has a huge yard to run in and is becoming a great house dog. She is all kisses towards our cat, Skittles, but Skittles is still a little unsure of her. She has learned to fetch, stay and sit with no problem. She is ready to please at any time and loves to be right by our sides. Thank you so much for such a wonderful dog. She is a great addition to our family. We will post an updated picture soon.

Thank you again,
The Brinson Family

We love our little girl so much! We have renamed her Bijou (meaning kiss in French) because she is so affectionate and loves to give kisses! She has done so well in our home and is just the sweetest thing. Our kitten Delilah is getting along with her quite well. She's still a little overwhelmed by Bijou's wagging tail and doesn't want to share her toys quite yet but it's easy to see that they are well on their way to being great friends. We'll post an update with a picture soon!  Thank you again for caring for her!

P.S I have sent your website to several animal lovers in hopes to help you adopt out even more wonderful pets!
Dear ARF,

You have another satisfied customer.  I adopted Sara and she is a joy.
Worth much more than the dollar amount depicted.

best always,

Hello ARF!! I adopted a dog in July of 2003. Y'all named her Taffy, but  I changed it to Delilah, due to the fact that we once had a dog named Taffy  in our family. Since that day, Lilah has become the absolute love of my life! She's a 30 pound two-year old now. I moved back home to Snellville for a  job opportunity and of course took Lilah with me. She now has a best friend, Sam, who is a nine-year old Basset Hound. I just wanted to say thank you for helping to bring this wonderful dog to me!

Hi! My name is April Phillips.  I adopted Bing a few months ago from Animal Rescue Foundation.  Today, he is my little baby!  He is in great health, has a great personality, and loves everyone he meets, as well as other animals.  He is growing bigger everyday and is now a big 18.1 lbs.  Thank you for helping to put him in my life.

Thank You So Much,
~~*April Phillips*~~
We adopted molly in June and she has just been the best pup!  She has been such a blessing! She is crate trained and loves to go on car rides. She is up to 15 pounds and just loves my husband. She likes to sit in the Lazyboy with him and chew on pig ears. Getting the hang of walking on the leash is getting easier, we have been watching the "dog whisperer" on National Geographic channel, and we are using his techniques for training.

Again, THANK YOU for such a wonderful addition to our family.

Just thought I would let you know that Mallory is doing fine...She and Emma are finally getting to play together some.  I’m still keeping them separated at night and during the day when we are at work.  I want them to get along completely before I’ll leave them together alone.  Mallory will hold her own with Emma, she won’t back down and they will tussle and chase each other.  Emma still growls and hisses a bit, but her “bark is worse that her bite” since she doesn’t try to hurt Mallory.  She will hit her, but she doesn’t extend her claws.  When I put Mallory up in her room at night, Emma will lay beside the door and cry for me to let her out...Thanks again for helping Mallory find a wonderful home.  She’s such a special little kitty!

Hello - Today was day one for our dog Nick whom my husband came and adopted June 6.  Today.he is a lovely dog and has fit in wonderfully. He is already one of the family, and he has taken over my son's bed. hehe. He is the most gentle dog. We have been looking for a dog for quite some time and just fell in love with his picture and knew he was the one. He has not been shy but is a little stubborn like my kids. See, already acting like my own, and he is.

I will write back later and let you know how our newest family member is doing with new pictures. Here is the picture that made me fall in love instantly.  Thanks , The Dooley Crew

Just wanted to let ya’ll know JADE (formerly Spookie) did great on the trip home. She is starting to realize Joe (my dog) means her no harm but his being bigger than her still has her slightly intimidated when there’s a one-on-one.  I showed her quickly that he’s not able to jump up on anything (his arthritis is in the hip area) so she’s exploring more and more.  You can tell she’s starting to like him because she is very curious to see what he’s doing, she’ll go out of her way to sneak a peek.  Probably by Friday she’ll be using him as a rug to lay on………….right now she’ll lay beside one of my legs and Joe will lay beside the other.

About the name change all my pets (children) have to have human names….she has already picked up on she must be Miss Jade or Lady Jade and Joe must be the dust mop…..
She’s talked some not too much but I think it’s because she’s learned already that she’ll get the attention without it.
Thanks again, see ya’ll soon!

Hello ARF - Our family adopted Tiger this past summer. He is growing and thriving along with our other two cats. He has made himself completely at home (as you can see). He loves our two-year-old. They play ball together and Tiger regularly chases our son around the house or ambushes him from around a corner. He's terrific fun and he's just as loving and sweet as he can be. Thanks for doing such a great job with him!

The Miles Family

Hey ARF,

Just wanted to drop a line and let you know how Cheddar is doing after week one.  The first day he was a little wary of his new home, but he already owns the place.  As the pictures show, he is getting plenty of rest when he’s not spending quality time with his owner.  He is always willing to be picked up, held, and petted, and will follow you from room to room.  I’m so glad he’s settled in nicely and I wanted to thank you for helping us make him a part of the family.

Thanks,

Eddie

Hey ARF!

Just wanted to drop you guys a line from Vermont to tell y'all that me, the cats, and Ursa miss everyone!  Here are my ARF babies curled up on the couch together.  Draco and Hercules (the white brothers) are going to be 5 years old at the end of January and Percy (the red tabby) is going to be 2 years old in March.  My how the time flies!!!  They tell me they like Vermont from looking out the windows but they sure are glad that they don't go outside!!!

Hi! My name is Kay Weathers. My boyfriend Jason and I adopted Maria (orginally Misty) this summer. We just wanted to let ya'll know how great she is! She is the sweetest cat in the whole world, although I may be slightly biased. :-) She is very friendly, smart, well behaved, and beautiful. We just wanted to say thank you!

Thanks,

Kay and Jason

Dear ARF:

My husband and I adopted Belle right after Thanksgiving. She was a tiny, golden puff ball who in just three months has grown into a lanky, playful little dog. She gets along great with our eight cats (four are from ARF) and loves to gather her toys around her, as shown in this photo. I wasn't sure about having another dog because they require a bit more work than cats,  but now I don't know what we ever did without her. Thank you ARF for another fabulous animal.

Bruce and Lisa

To the folks at ARF:

Well Ralph and Alice continue to grow. They are about six months old now. Ralph is 55 pounds and Alice is 42 pounds. If we didn't know they are litter mates we likely wouldn't suspect it. Alice has no hound in her. She is quick and agile but quite tough too. When they play she likes to run straight at Ralph and run into him as hard as she can. It knocks the wind out of both of them and then she gets up and does it again. I suspect the missing hound is a terrier or border collie type dog. It certainly isn't a hound. Ralph is the classic hound. He's rangy and gangly, looks like he's made from spare parts sometimes. But he'll fool us too as when they are playing and he will jump over Alice while they both running full stride. Their favorite game is chase. They will chase each other until they are completely winded.  They are very attached to one another and have yet to have a serious disagreement. They play hard and wrestle but share their toys quite nicely.  We enjoy them immensely and are most glad to have them share our home.

Thanks.

Hi there! My name is Courtney Javens, and I adopted a puppy from you all in October, and I just wanted to give you guys an update! She's about 8 months old now and is a German Shepard mix. We named her Dolce! She is just about the sweetest dog I have ever met in my entire life. She's great with my niece and little cousins and is just the most loving and attentive dog in the world. I could not have asked for a better companion, and on top of that she definitely makes us feel more secure living out here at the lake. She loves to just run around outside and play with the dogs next door! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me the opportunity to find her, and I think it's great what you all do. I attached two pictures of her now...I hope you all can open them!!  Have a good day!  Thank you!!

Courtney & Dolce!

Stella's baby photo when she was at ARF

Stella today - all grown up!

Back in April my husband and I saw a litter of puppies on your website and fell in love with one of them. Her name was Aurora and we knew we had to adopt her. I drove 6 hours from Asheville, NC and would do it again to have Aurora in our lives. We renamed her Stella and she has brought us so much joy. She is a thriving, happy, well-behaved pup. And very smart too.

She loves everyone-never meets a stranger. She loves to go on hikes in the mountains and for long walks by the lake which is walking distance from our house. She also loves to sleep between me and Pete (we should have gotten a KING size bed). She is still playful-loves the ball and chew bones. She is a very lovely and pampered pooch!

Stella/Aurora is just over 50 pounds although her feet are still so big!. She has the lean look of a hound. We would LOVE to know more about her parents--she has been mistaken for a Greater Swiss Mtn. dog although she does not have the size. I check the success page often to see if any of her siblings appear--they were all beautiful pups! I have attached a full body pic of her so you can she how she's grown. I also attached the pic that lured us to Milledgeville:)

If and when we decide to adopt another pup--we will check your site. Although there are shelters around our area, I am so impressed with the care you obviously give your animals--Stella is a gem!  Keep up the great work.

Thanks!
Peter and Lisa Carver

PS--A recent picture of Stella is attached--isn't she a beauty?

Hi to ARF!

In June (after a lot of thinking) I finally came by ARF and adopted Dixie, a puppy I had seen on your really terrific website.  I was so glad that she was still there.  She was really shy when I got her home and it had been so long since I had a puppy, I wasn't sure what to do either!  We adjusted and I have fallen totally in love with this funny, entertaining, loving pal!  She is so much company to me and I look forward everyday to going home and being greeted by her.  Thanks for doing such a great job for all of our animal friends!

Patti Tolbert
Hope is fitting in wonderfully, she and Nala have such a good time. They love playing tag and tug-of-war. Her surgery never slowed her down a bit, she had her stitches taken out today. I can't keep her clean she loves to play in her water bowl and then roll around in the dirt. These pictures were right after their bath and it is one of the few times that we have seen her clean for more than 5 minutes. Thank you so much. Nala says thanks too.

Jamilyn and Corey Ellis

P.S. She LOVES to be held and cuddled, we can't even pet her without having to pick her up and she already weighs 18 pounds.

i wanted to give you an update on maggie. we renamed her sydney jo england. she has adjusted very well. the first night she ran circles around the living room for two hours. the surgery didn't seem to phase her at all. she finished her medicine and has put a little weight back on since having the coccidia.

sydney sleeps thru the whole night...promptly waking us up just before our alarm clock at 7:15a.m. she has lots and lots of personality. we couldn't be happier. she has added so much to our lives already and it's only been one week. she goes for the last round of boosters on thursday and will have her stitches out not long after that. i think she realizes that we are her mom and dad now because when we come home she just wants to love on us before she goes out to potty. she is picking up on the potty training very well...having accidents very rarely!  thank you so much for allowing us to adopt her. i wish we could adopt 10 more!

attached are some pictures of sydney from the day we brought her home. i will send more in the future.

thank you so much,

mary lynn, nate, & sydney

Just wanted to let you know that the girls are doing great!  It took them a few days to settle in, but if you didn't know better you'd think they'd been here for years!!  They did really good on the way home, except for the first rest area we stopped at ... Clover got loose from her choker collar & started to run away from us!  I was so scared that we wouldn't be able to get her to come back to us, but then I realized that she was so scared of the noise (semi trucks) that she wasn't going too far ... Only took a couple of minutes & she came right back to us (actually, I think she was trying to get back to her sister more than us, but that was okay!!)  By the second rest area they both seemed to getting used to the collar & leash, so there were no more panic situations.  Clover went to the bathroom every time we stopped ... Heather NEVER did, until we got home & then, boy did she go!!  I don't know how her little bladder was able to hold so much ...

They're both already becoming very protective of their new house ... Heather seems to be the leader when it comes to barking; Clover will join in sometimes, but usually she'll just leave it up to Heather.  They're eating really good & love to sleep in the house! Heather keeps taking our shoes outside when we're not looking, but she doesn't chew on them or anything.  She also keeps trying to take the kitchen rugs outside, but she gets caught every time and brings them back!  Clover doesn't seem to get into as much mischief as Heather, but she will help herself to almost anything on the coffee table & wants to sit on the couch more than anything!   They both have responded to NO, COME & STAY really well ... We're still working on SIT, but they seem to be getting the hang of it.

They are so lovey dovey ... Thank you so much for everything!!

Deanne Kistner (Louie & Tyler, too)

P.S.  By the way, we loved Milledgeville & surrounding areas ... Even with all the road construction, it was absolutely gorgeous!
I have a dog that my husband and I adopted.  I thought you might like a picture to add to your success page.  His name is Boudreaux.  We adopted him in March.  He is so playful and fits in with our brood perfectly.  We have two other dogs we rescued from the street, as well as my 15 year old miniature schnauzer.

Thanks!
Cindy Allard

Chelsea is settling in nicely.  She and Freckles are friends already, and Chelsea and Maizie just hiss at one another from time to time.  Chelsea has made herself at home and explored all the house.    Chelsea loves my husband the most and they are inseparable.  Here are some photos of Chelsea.  Like all good girls she is a living doll and we could never part with her.  This is a true match made in heaven!

Thanks,

Donnell

Sampson has finally been adopted! His new owner, Jennifer Rogers of Milledgeville, has visited him often and today was the day he went home! Sampson came to the shelter in August of 2002 as a cute 8 week old kitten, and now, 8 months later he finally has a home!!!!!
Mia came to ARF in May, 2002 at 6˝ weeks old.  For some reason, Mia got overlooked by potential adopters over the months.  Now, Mia is 10˝ months old - a long time to be in a cage.  But today (2/18/03) was the day!  Today, Mia went home with her new parents, Dustin and Jessica Peterson.  Here is a picture of Dustin and Mia together.  Congratulations to Mia, Dustin, and Jessica!!!

Hi!
I adopted a kitten from ARF a few weeks ago and just wanted to let you know that she is doing just great.  I was concerned about how she and our 1 year old Sporty would get along, but they took an instant liking to each other.  I knew that it had to be love when the first day she was home, Sporty let her sit in his favorite spot at the window.  I've attached a picture to show you what a perfect fit she is in our home.  She loves to cuddle and does not care who adores her at the time -- Sporty, me, or my son.  I am suggesting ARF to all of my friends.
Thank you,
Kelly and Ty Pennington
Sandy - Shown here with her new pal, Kenneth.  Sandy was turned in to ARF on 7/9/02.  A nice family came in and adopted her on 7/13/02.  Sandy now has a second chance to be part of a loving family!
